3 Ways To Manage Expectations

By Angel Apurillo

"Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to-day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life."
- Marilu Henner
Most people ask things through prayers and wishes and tend to expect to have it. When it doesn't happen, the whole world collapses on them and be feel bad about it. sometimes they curse and hate God about it.

When there is a promotion that we want to have and we don't get it, we feel bad. And then we think that there is a conspiracy behind and other things that will make them feel worse.

When we don't get that bonus or the money we are expecting, we yell at whoever answers the call for help.

But do we resolve and answer why it did not happen? Why it was not given to us?
By being angry and letting people know it, you expect empathy.

To be honest, I don't do that. I don't patronize a person just because of this petty attitude maturity.

I am a person that don't expect things. I want to be surprised and live sponteneously. So I want to share with you how to manage those expectations with this article. I want people to understand why its not happening and what could be done to redeem ourselves.
  1. Don't expect. Practice it by surprising yourself with simple things. If you are expecting a meal when you get home, why not try eating out or cook a new dish. You'll be more surprised when you can cook a tasty food.
  2. Work on what you want. If you want that promotion or that material thing, you need to work for it. Even if you don't have it, there will be other opportunities that will chase you. And I mean "chase". So what if you don't get that position or that thing you're eyeing for? They'll regret that they didn't choose me.
  3. Understand that there is something better. There is absolutely something better that's in store for you. So don't be sad if you didn't get what you are expecting. Even if its hard, in time you'll understand why it was not given to you.
Expecting things to happen is an absolute no-no. Don't be fooled by your emotions and self-confidence. Sometimes you need to understand that there is always someone better than you.
