"A good leader leads the people from above them. A great leader leads the people from within them."
- M.D. Arnold
Its not easy to be a leader. It needs more than being in a position. It takes many skills that would would be beneficial to both the leader and subordinates.
There are things that a leader needs to learn first before becoming one. And from what I learned so far, below are some of it:
- Patience. Well you need a lot of this. Especially when handling difficult people. Learning to have lots of it takes time and dedication.
- Empathy. This needs a lot of listening skills. To be able to give empathy, you need to listen to them and know how they feel.
- Authority. With this, it still impose that you are the leader. And you have the power to say yes or no to your subordinates. They should know who's the boss around here.
- Responsible. You need to be responsible about your actions. All eyes are on you, so be careful.
- Understanding. Lots of it. You need to control your emotions and understand that they are humans and commits mistake.
Many people don't understand what things are being done by a leader. All they know is that it is prestigious and has high salary. They don't know what it is being a leader.
